This is a response to the prompt "Queer and Trans Flesh: a Divine Encounter: Strange Intimacies"
Saint Sebastian is fairly well known. He was tied to a tree and shot with arrows, but survived and was helped by Saint Irene. Many artists used depictions of him to show male beauty, and he is considered something of a gay icon. Saint Wilgefortis prayed to god to help her avoid marriage to a pagan. She grew a beard, looking like Jesus. Her father crucified her in retribution. I’m a gay trans man and often I am taken at first glance as a bearded woman, so these saints are really important to me and it was great to make a piece with them!
